KJC Mission Statement

Knowledge needs to be shared.  This is the main philosophy of Kathmandu Jazz Conservatory and the reason KJC was created.

As you know, we opened our doors in the fall of 2007.  Since then we have accomplished many of our original goals, for you and thanks to you.

  • KJC has the first big band in Nepal, KJC Jazz Orchestra.
  • We have more than 150 students.
  • NMES, the Nepal Music Educators Society, is the first society about music education in the country and already has 50 members.
  • Dr. Gene Aitken, one of the leading music educators in the world, inaugurated KJC and agreed to be our mentor and adviser.
  • We hold regular workshops and have brought many international musicians to do free workshops here.
  • As of January 2009 it has been one year since we started our Concert Series, monthly concerts that take place the last Saturday of the month.
  • Hyatt has agreed to keep providing us with "Hyatt Women in Concert Scholarship" which last year helped 8 female students.  In 2008 we gave 26 scholarships and hope we can raise more funds to award many more.
  • Katjazz Records, KJC's record label, with its state-of-the-art facility, continues to grow.
  • We started our Audio Engineer program so the students do not have to travel abroad to become proficient I audio and life sound reinforcement.  KJC can offer many more things than an audio school abroad simply because we have a music school together with a studio recording.  Both musicians and the recordists can take advantage of this.  Many other schools of audio only have audio and the students have to hire musicians in order to practice.
  • Since last year we also have a music festival, Miles Music Festival, where we emphasize Nepali music and musicians.  The festival is an interaction between education and music.  This March, from the 21st to the 29th, we will have lots of events related to music: workshops, music competitions, jam sessions, movies, lectures, concerts and many more things for you to enjoy; everything will be for free for KJC students.

We want to share all this with you.  Come by and enjoy the music, enjoy our environment.  You do not need to be a KJC student to take in this great musical atmosphere that we have created for you.

And it gets even better, we HAVE electricity 24hrs a day!

Many thanks for your support.
