Rainer Pusch(Germany)
As an international and renowned saxophonist, arranger and composer, Rainer Pusch
has always been interested in trying out new kinds of music. His spectrum ranges from a jazzy background obtained during his studies at the Berklee College of Music (Boston) to various performances with funk, latin and pop bands over the years. His sudden wish to explore the world of classic South Indian music fifteen years ago, taking vocal and instrumental lessons from S. Rajaram, the highly respected director and teacher of the Kalakshetra College of Fine Arts, Chennai, as well as other classical teachers such as Madurai G. S. Mani and Selva Ganesh, added yet another style to his musical palette.
After several three to five months stays in Chennai between 1996 and 1998, a two years scholarship from the Indian Council on Cultural Relations enabled him to further deepen his knowledge of South Indian Carnatic music.
Beside his studies in Carnatic music, Rainer Pusch ́s manifold interests brought him to collaborate repeatedly with many international artists, like Art Farmer, Horace Parlan, Karl Berger, John Betsch and famed Indian musicians such as the Mumbai based basists Keith and Karl Peters, with Louis Banks, Sivamani or Ranjit Barot, Dr. Mysor Manjunath within the scope of Indo-Jazz Fusion projects. Further collaborations included recordings with A.R. Rahman and Ramnath Gopalnat as well as many gigs with Ganesh Kumar, Selva Ganesh, Dr. Balamuralikrishnan, and Amit Heri.
