We have been celebrating International Jazz Day in Nepal for six years and this time around it was the biggest of them all. It is a festival celebrated worldwide on the 30th of April every year. We had many more international artists from Italy, Brazil, Germany and Spain collaborating with local artists from our conservatory and the traditional drummers from Nagbahal.
There were many workshops, classes, film-screenings and concerts throughout the week of International Jazz Day week where people could interact with the artists. Thank you for all of you that joined us on this festival. Jazz is about freedom and a mixture of tradition and that is exactly what we achieved.
This year was different. We decided to have the main day at Nagbahal because we wanted to expose this music to people who had not had the opportunity to listen to it and spread to this audience. It also made sense to have a free concert in such a beautiful open unobstructed space where many people could come in. There was a fusion of many cultures and musical disciplines where the artists and the local musicians shared the stage on the last song ‘Rajamati’ which is an old traditional folk song. It was the crown piece of the festival because of the way it sounded with all the international artists playing together on it giving it a unique flavor.
Thank you to all of you for making this such a huge success! Thank you to the Nagbahal Tole Sudhar Committee for organizing the handicraft exhibition and preparing the traditional drummers. Thank you all the bands that performed for us KJC 9am Combo, OTS, Maria Fajardo, The KJC Nepal Army Big Band, The Mark Arban Lotz and Daniel Marques Duo and The Ivan Bert Dark Magus Orchestra feat. Gianni Denitto.
