The fifteenth edition of Jazzmandu is happening from 12th to 18th October. Jazzmandu is one of the biggest celebrations in Jazz along with the International Jazz Day that happens on April 30th. It features many international artists from all around the world. Some of the artists featured this year are Filtron M, Julia Sarr and Palouse Jazz Project among many.
Every year the world-class artists come and give workshops at KJC and Music Room. We have workshops scheduled on October 17th, Tuesday from 11am to 1:30pm in our Studio Room and Combo room. These workshops will be especially useful for musicians who want to perform in a band. We have two workshops by two bands Palouse Jazz Project from the US and Samuel Wootton “Toy Story” from Germany.
Palouse Jazz Project is a band from the US established in 2006, performs around the north-western United States. It comprises faculty members from the Lionel Hampton School of Music at the University of Idaho in Moscow, Idaho, who have studied and worked with some of the top names in American jazz. Besides a repertoire of jazz standards, the ensemble plays a variety of numbers composed by its members, some of which appear on a recently released CD of original compositions and arrangements.
In Samuel Wootton’s Toy Story, the stage is a playground where five musicians tell their fantastic tales. They combine the improvisational freedom of jazz, the deep grooves of hip-hop, the intimacy of chamber music and unique aesthetics from many of the world’s musical cultures, to create a sound that defies categorization. Samuel’s leads the band, displaying a remarkable versatility as a bandleader and his extensive collection of percussion instruments from all corners of the globe.
